RSPCA WA plays a critical role for animal welfare in Western Australia by:
Targeting animal cruelty and neglect
- We operate a state-wide animal cruelty hotline, so anyone can report animal welfare concerns they witness in the community.
- We investigate animal cruelty complaints, which may result in providing education, advice, directives or enforcement of animal welfare legislation, including rescuing animals in danger. RSPCA WA is the state’s only charity empowered to investigate and prosecute offences under the Act.
- We undertake legal proceedings against animal abusers who breach the Animal Welfare Act (2002) to bring them to justice and deter them from reoffending.
Caring for animals in need
- We provide animal rehabilitation, shelter and care to seized and abandoned animals, including all veterinary care, training and daily enrichment.
- We offer fostering opportunities for suitable animals to support their health and wellbeing.
- We help animals who are ready for adoption find suitable new homes.
Advancing animal welfare standards
- We advocate for stronger protections, better standards, and practical solutions that reflect both animal welfare science and the expectations of our community.
- We support pet owners doing it tough with practical assistance like free pet care and emergency respite for those escaping family and domestic violence.
- We educate and support the community with practical resources, programs and events.
- We speak up for animals as WA’s leading voice for animal welfare matters in the media.
